GCSE Results 2023

With the release of the 2023 GCSE results we again have some wonderful individual achievements to celebrate and congratulate our students for their exam successes. They should be very proud of themselves for the grades they have achieved and for the way in which they have dealt with disruption and challenges to their secondary education and welfare since the first lockdown in 2020.

Headteacher Jenny Maraspin says:

We are delighted to see so many students achieving top tier grades and leaving us happy with their results. This is particularly pleasing given that grade boundaries have risen across the board. We are also delighted that so many - nearly 20% - have performed even better than expected, gaining on average 1 grade higher than predicted, and especially pleased to see that several have achieved fantastic results whilst experiencing difficult personal circumstances throughout the year. We shall miss these wonderful young people, and we wish each and every one of them the very best of luck for the continuation of their studies beyond The Swanage School.

Special congratulations go to our top performing students including: Michael Johnson, who achieved 4 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s and a grade 7; Skye Anderson-Doig with 1 grade 9, 5 grade 8s, 3 grade 7s and a 6; Amy Robertson with 2 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s and 4 grade 6s; Leon Jones with 1 grade 9, 3 grade 8s, a 7 and 3 grade 6s; Lily Roberts with 4 grade 8s, 2 grade 7s and 4 6s; Suzie Dring with 4 grade 8s, a 7 and 4 grade 6s, and Ava Muir with 2 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and a 6.

Last year, 100% of students had their next steps secured and we expect the same again this year. Our students will be moving on to study A-levels at local sixth form colleges including The Purbeck School, Lytchett Minster, Thomas Hardye, Poole Grammar and Parkstone Grammar. Others are looking forward to courses or apprenticeships at Bournemouth and Poole College, Kingston Maurward College and Brockenhurst College.

Wishing all our leavers very best wishes for the future!

What's next?

Students leave The Swanage School after Year 11.  Each year, students move on to a range of further education opportunities including A-level studies, apprenticeships and vocational courses across Dorset and Hampshire.
