Cycling Success!

Cycling Success!

Congratulations to Year 10 student Rufus King who has qualified for the British Youth National Championship Time Trial, to be held in September 2023. Rufus will be one of the youngest riders at the championship, and is training hard to put in a stellar performance.

He recently completed a 10 mile circuit at Goodwood race course, in very windy conditions, in 22 minutes 17 seconds.

In May, Rufus took part in a South District Championship 25 mile time trial race alongside 100 other athletes. He came first in the junior category with a time of 1:00:22, which was 5 minutes quicker than the next rider in that category, and came 17th overall. In the top ten were full time athletes including some British champions. In the same week he placed 3rd at a regional hill climbing championship which took place in Creech where the gradient is an average of 20% over 0.7km - a short, sharp climb.

Rufus trains with Poole Wheelers and has been placing well not only time-trials and road, but also cyclocross events and track sprints. He regularly trains at the Calshot Velodrome, which has a 142m track, as well as taking part in sessions at the full 250m tracks in Derby and Newport.
