Where relationships are at the heart of the school and
the school is at the heart of the community

Choosing your options

Choosing which subjects to study for your GCSEs can be a daunting prospect at the best of times. This is a particularly challenging year and we are very conscious that all students are likely to be feeling unsettled. By asking those in Year 9 to choose their options now, we will be able to reduce the stress and workload of studying subjects in the Summer Term that you do not intend to take in Years 10 & 11 and instead ease you into the subjects you will be taking.

Many of you will already have a clear idea of the subjects you want to study for GCSE, others less so. Either way, we are here to help and to guide you through the process.

Step 1: Work your way through the options booklet (link below)

Options Booklet 2020

This will help you:

  • identify your strengths and preferences
  • understand the curriculum and assessment requirements for each subject
  • understand which combination of subjects is possible
  • whittle down your choices until you have the best combination for you
  • understand that we will do our very best to accommodate your first choices, but why very occasionally we have to ask students to accept a back-up choice

Step 2: Talk to your teachers if you have any questions or would like more information

School may be closed but we are still here for you and look forward to discussing your option choices with you and/or your parents. Please do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns, no matter how trivial they may seem.

Contacting staff during school closure

During school closure you can email subject teachers, a Curriculum Area Leader or your tutor (see Our Staff for contact details).

If you leave your phone number, they will be happy to call you to answer your questions!

Step 3: Complete the online form by Wednesday 8th April 2020

Please click here to be directed to our on-line option choice form. If you are unable to submit your choices this way for any reason please get in touch with the School Office without delay and they will help you. Either way, choices need to be made by Wednesday 8th April 2020 to enable us to get groups organised ready for delivery very soon after Easter.
