Choosing your options

Many students will already have a clear idea of the subjects they want to study for GCSE, others less so. Either way, we are here to help and to guide students through the process. The link to the Option Choice Form is at the bottom of this page.

Our guide for students is below.

Step 1: Complete the tasks set by teachers

These will help you decide which options are best for you, as they are designed to help you explore and have a better understanding of the kind of work you will have to do at GCSE.

Step 2: Work your way through the Options Booklet (this is provided in hard copy to all Year 9 students)

This will help you:

  • identify your strengths and preferences
  • understand the curriculum and assessment requirements for each subject
  • understand which combination of subjects is possible
  • whittle down your choices until you have the best combination for you
  • understand that we will do our very best to accommodate your first choices, but why very occasionally we have to ask students to accept a back-up choice

You can also take a look at the subject pages here on the website (accessed from the "Curriculum" tab) and our Key Stage 4 presentations.

Step 3: Attend the Options Evening and talk to your teachers if you have any questions or would like more information

We look forward to discussing your option choices with you and/or your parents. Information on the Options Evening is provided is the Options Booklet and accompanying letter emailed to parents. Please do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns, no matter how trivial they may seem.

Step 4: Complete the online form by the given deadline (detailed in the Options Booklet)

Student and parent/carer should complete the form together. If the form does not display straightaway, or shows an error, please give it a moment to load or try refreshing your screen.
