Swanage Grammar School Donate £1,000

Swanage Grammar School final reunion

It was a pleasure to see the school hall used as the venue for the final reunion of The Swanage Grammar School Association on Saturday 21st May 2022. 170 former pupils of the Grammar School filled the hall to catch up with old friends throughout the day, and enjoyed a buffet lunch provided by outside caterers. The SGSA Committee worked incredibly hard on Friday night to set up the hall in readiness for Saturday's event, decorating it in the house colours from the former Grammar School.

The Grammar School, which opened in 1929, closed its doors in 1974. Since The Swanage School opened, the SGSA have chosen us as their venue for their biennial reunions. This particular event had been postponed twice due to the pandemic, having originally been scheduled for June 2020. Memorabilia, including many old photographs and books were on display, including the weather vane from the top of their old school building, now the derelict site on Northbrook Road and soon to be demolished, and their old 'School Honours' board (below).

As this was the final reunion, the SGSA kindly donated £1,000 of their remaining funds to The Swanage School, for which we are incredibly grateful. Their Treasurer, David Slingo, presented to the cheque to the Curriculum Area Leader for English, Music, Languages and Performing Arts, Harry Peake. The funds are earmarked for the purchase of books to support reading and the curriculum.
